Stethoscopes & Sippy Cups: An Atypical Journey

  1. Physical Assessment, by Jessica

Well, we are at the halfway point of the summer session! I can’t even believe how fast time has passed.

We had our first exam about 2 weeks ago (yup, on the 2nd week of school), so that was a little stressful, but I did really well considering my husband was here for the weekend. I can’t say that I studied very hard. ;)

In approximately three hours, I will be having a *major* exam on the head-to-toe physical assessment. Just as I’m sure you have to do in medical school, we literally have to do an hour-long complete exam on our lab partners. It is a *lot* to memorize, and I was really overwhelmed with it at first. We have to pass this in order to begin clinicals next week. After practicing on my fellow classmates and stuffed animals, though, I think I have it down.

I also have another huge test on Monday. This is actually one of the biggest tests I’ve ever taken, as it is on thirteen 1.5 hour lectures. A little overwhelming, but I plan to study pretty furiously this weekend.

I really can’t believe how much I have learned already. On the first week of school, I was frustrated and confused. How in the world would I possibly learn this and keep my patients healthy and safe? Was I really capable? I gain new confidence every day. I can’t believe how far my classmates and I have come in just a month’s time.
